Hey bloggers! Bow here.
On Friday I met with my youth group at a members house in Wellesley, Ontario. We were given a choice of four movies, supplied by our minister, all about people with mental or physical disabilities. The movie we voted for was The Cure. I actually did not want to watch this at first, but I was out voted. I had clearly misjudged the movie.
The Cure is a brilliant tale of friendship and courage about a boy with AIDS and the problems he faces.
The story starts out with Erik, an outcast teen, who is bullied by his peers and his uncaring mom. He spends his time outside in his backyard talking through a fence to his neighbour, Dexter. Then one day Erik hops the fence to meet Dexter face to face. Dexter begins to explain to Erik what it's like having AIDS. From that point on they spend every waking hour looking for a cure. They go on many adventures and encounter many obstacles along the way.
The movie is very well written and placed in a time where there were very many misconceptions about AIDS. AIDS is an STD, so when boys got it they were called "homo"and"faggot". But in reality, AIDS can come from anywhere. Dexter actually got his from a blood transfusion. Erik works tirelessly to vanquish this misconception.
Overall I think The Cure is a brilliant movie and is a definite must see. :)
